BLENDER Short Film to Screen World Premiere at 20th Annual Tallgrass Film Festival

DALLAS (September 1, 2022) – Production company The Monthly Junk today announced the selection of its short film, BLENDER, by the Tallgrass Film Festival. BLENDER will be screened in the Short Film - Narrative category for juried awards at this year’s event, which takes place at the Tallgrass Film Center in Wichita, Kansas September 28 through October 2, 2022.

A comedy horror set in 1991, BLENDER features gossiping housewives Jess, played by Sarah Adams, and Meg, played by Maggie Rieth Austin, discussing the joy of smoothies, the hidden dangers of the PTA, and the sweet, sweet taste of revenge. Further misadventures of Jess, Meg, and the Parkside Elementary PTA can be explored in the not-true-true-crime BLENDER companion podcast, available on all major podcast platforms.

“Jess and Meg are such fun characters, and we loved exploring their absurdity,” said Rieth Austin. “They take things too far, but their struggles will be familiar to any parent who’s ever had beef with the PTA.”

BLENDER stars and was written by Adams and Rieth Austin, the veteran comedy duo behind The Monthly Junk. It was directed by Adams and produced by Adams, Rieth Austin and Brett Cassel of Daisy Cutter Productions.

“We are thrilled to have been selected to participate in this year’s Tallgrass Film Festival,” said Adams. “It’s an honor and a privilege to see our work alongside so many of the country’s most creative filmmakers.”

Now in its 20th year, the Tallgrass Film Festival highlights independent filmmakers from around the country. This year’s lineup includes 53 features and 14 short programs comprising 195 films, including BLENDER, which will screen at 10 pm CT on Saturday, October 1, directly before festival honoree Lloyd Kaufman’s #ShakespeareShitstorm. About The Monthly Junk

The Monthly Junk started in 2013, as Sarah Adams and Maggie Rieth Austin sat in front of an old couch in the Dallas Comedy House lobby and laughed and laughed at how hilarious they were. Before too long, they put up a camera and filmed some bits. Ever since that day, they have been making each other laugh on and off camera. As a duo, The Monthly Junk has written, produced, and performed in comedy both on screen and on the stage. Sarah and Maggie also bring their own experience as advertisers, marketers, actors, comedians, filmmakers, and, of course, besties, which make every collaboration a unique and delightful experience.
